Metropolis of Detroit
Young Adult Ministry
Metropolis Young Adult
League:
The mission of the Greek Orthodox Young Adult League (G.O.Y.A.L. or Y.A.L.) is to
integrate young adults into the life of the Church by ministering to and
guiding one another toward an Orthodox Christian life. The Young Adult
Movement focuses on a well-balanced program of Community Service, Liturgical
Worship, Witness to the Orthodox Faith, and Christian Fellowship.
Metropolis of Detroit
Camp Staff:
Another
vitally important aspect of our Metropolis Young Adult Ministry is the MDC
Staff opportunity. Currently we have many young adults who serve on our MDC
Staff. This staff meets for the purpose of staff development, Scripture
study and guest speaker presentations. Although this experience is one of
service to our younger Orthodox youth, it is also a time for spiritual
growth and maturation as an Orthodox young adult.
Orthodox Christian
Fellowship
(OCF):
Campus
Ministry: In the greater-Detroit area, our Metropolis has an active
campus ministry program the University of Michigan. The school has its
own student-organized OCF group that meets regularly. Speakers from
around the country have been invited to serve on the OCF Ministry Team which
supports and guides the effort on each campus. A couple of times during the
year the Metropolis coordinates a joint meeting of all the schools at which
there is a guest speaker. Another vitally important aspect of our
Metropolis Young Adult Ministry is the MDC Staff opportunity.
Currently we have over young adults who serve on our MDC Staff. This staff
meets for the purpose of staff development, Scripture study and guest
speaker presentations. Although this experience is one of service to our
younger Orthodox youth, it is also a time for spiritual growth and
maturation as an Orthodox young adult.
Real
Break:
Real Break provides alternatives to the 'traditional' spring break.
Mission Mexico is an outreach program for our Orthodox young people. A
team of graduating High School seniors, college students and staff members
will assist Project Mexico by constructing a home for a poor family in
Tijuana.
The team will work with the staff of Project Mexico, the Mexican Orthodox
community, and visiting clergy from Southern California.
