MARCH 12 & 13
Our parish-level dates for the 2021 St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival will be March 12 & 13 via ZOOM. Invitations will only be sent to participants and their families. Above is a button to click to join the ZOOM meeting. You have been emailed the password ahead of time, it will not be posted here. Participants are asked to stay on the ZOOM call for the duration of their division, muted and no video showing when you are not presenting. If you are disconnected from ZOOM, you can come back to this page and click the ZOOM button (displayed only on the days of the event) to rejoin. Our participants are requried to display proper etiquette towards their fellow participants, such as not interupting a speech, forgetting to mute themselves, or displaying improper images. We are all in this together, and in order for this to run smoothly, we ask that you do your part! If you have any questions, contact Vicki Kinigham, contact information is listed below.
INTRODUCTION
Introduced in 1983, the St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival provides Greek Orthodox teenagers the opportunity to write and talk about their faith. The Oratorical Festival Program begins at the parish level and is divided into three divisions:
The top speakers in the Junior and Senior Divisions advance to the district level. Two finalists in each district division represent the district at the Metropolis Oratorical Festival. The top speaker in each metropolis division is then selected to participate in the Archdiocese Finals, which is hosted by a different metropolis each year. All eighteen finalists at the Archdiocese Finals participate in a weekend of activities, the highlight of which is the delivery of their speeches on Saturday morning. The Oratorical Festival Scholarship Fund provides college scholarships to the top speakers. Currently, the top three speakers of each division receive college scholarships of $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000. This year, each Honorable Mention speaker was awarded $500. |
